The Creator
A marine biologist by training and a landscape artist, Paul Louis Duranton composes ecosystem-landscapes where mineral, plant, and water engage in a perfect synergy to instill calm and beauty in your spaces.
Background
As a child, walks along rivers, fly fishing, and underwater photography awakened his eye to living things: mangroves, reefs, Posidonia seagrass beds, marshes, peat bogs, epiphytes, and mosses became his field of observation. True to these fascinations, he trained in biology and aquariology (holding a higher technician diploma in marine sciences – CNAM/Intechmer), and collaborated with several leading institutions: the aquarium museum of Arts d’Afrique et d’Océanie in Paris, Coutant Aquarium (La Rochelle), and the Ricard Oceanographic Foundation (Île des Embiez).
In 1996, after five years of experimentation combining sculpture, water circuits, and physicochemical and biological balances, he founded Atelier Paul Louis Duranton to apply this knowledge to artistic expression.
Approach
At the intersection of art and science, Paul Louis Duranton designs ecosystem-landscapes: living works inspired by nature, meticulously recomposed with aesthetic rigor, technical precision, and a sense of life. Each project arises from an attentive dialogue with the site, evolves over time, and seeks a precise presence: legible, soothing, contemplative.
“To build landscapes that connect us to living things and inspire us to care for them.”
